Just because you don’t own the home you live in, doesn’t mean you don’t need insurance.Call Marks Insurance today!

Not all of us are lucky enough to own our own house, particularly in our early adult life, but as renters we still try to make a home out of wherever we might be. We decorate and dress up the dwelling place in which we live, place our personal possessions in it and make it feel as comfortable as we can. Sometimes it’s even comforting to know that the ultimate responsibility for the home is the landlord’s!

One thing renters sometimes don’t realise is that although the owner or landlord usually has insurance for the building itself, the renter’s contents are generally not covered by that policy. That means that in case of fire, damage or theft, your privately owned belongings will not be repaired or replaced.

Imagine trying to refurnish an entire apartment after a fire or a theft. The value of your household contents adds up very quickly and there are few people who can afford to simply replace everything straight away. Add to that the cost of your clothing, jewellery, your music collection and other valuables, and it’s easy to imagine what a huge financial setback you could face if the home was destroyed or valuable contents stolen. Taking out renters’ insurance to cover your contents will give you peace of mind whether you are out at work or away on a holiday.

When considering how much to insure your contents for, think about every possession in your home and what it would cost if you had to replace every item from your television to your clothing. No matter how much insurance coverage you require Marks Insurance has one that will suit your needs and you may find that discounts are available, depending on certain safety features in your residence.

Don’t delay protecting your assets. The unexpected has a habit of occurring…unexpectedly!

Tips for Renters in Pennsylvania

Financially protect the items in your home with Renter’s Insurance, to cover theft, vandalism and fire. Here are a few tips that will help you to choose your insurance policy:

  • Note that it will only cover certain personal effects in the home. Major items such as vehicles are excluded and will need a different policy.
  • Make a record of your possessions and save receipts for large cost items. Take pictures and video; make the list as detailed as possible, and keep a copy in a safe place, outside the home. This will assist you in the event of a claim.
  • Choose the type of policy that suits you best. Some insurers will offer “new for old” arrangements which see your insured goods replaced with new items. Other insurers with lower premiums often replace goods with others of a similar standard.
  • Make sure that your policy gives you enough coverage to replace what is insured. A “Cash Value” policy will be cheaper but pays only what your property is worth at the time of loss – your cost minus depreciation for age and wear. You save money initially, but will you be able to replace your items?
  • Check for any specialized coverage you might need. Items like computers, cameras, jewellery and antiques might require extra coverage, or you may need to have them listed in the policy when you purchase it.
  • Shop around online for a policy that is both adequate and affordable.
  •

It’s likely we’ll have a policy that suits your needs. Why not give the Kramer Insurance Center a call now (800.247.6394) for more information or obtain a free estimate online?

Renting a Summer Home? You May Need Renter’s Insurance

[Source: http://home.wangjianshuo.com/]

Summer is coming which means vacations, fun in the sun, and summer homes. If you plan to stay at a rented summer home for the season, you should look into which, if any, of your insurance policies will cover you during this stay. Although your homeowner’s insurance can cover some of the value of your personal belongings outside of your home, usual this coverage does not last beyond a two week period of being away from your home.

If you stay at a rented summer home for a period of over two weeks in the season, you may want to purchase a renter’s insurance policy. Renter’s insurance is a low cost policy that can cover your personal belongings should anything happen to the rental property in which you are staying. The following outlines typical coverage on a basic renter’s policy:

  • Posessions are protected from theft and vandalism
  • Posessions are protected from events of “peril” (Peril is defined differently by each company, typically this includes fire by lightening, hailstorms, explosion, etc.)
  • Temporary living expenses should a rental property be unlivable
  • Posessions are protected outside of the rental property (To a certain extent, just like homeowner’s policies)

Those in New York, who rent summers homes, like those renting vacation homes in popular spots like the Hamptons, should contact Avalon Agency Insurance for more information and a free quote on renter’s insurance. Visit our virtual insurance office at www.avalonagency.com!
